Behringer RD-808 Drum Machine ships on 808 day
Over a year since the announcement, the Behringer RD-808 is finally shipping – and on a fitting date 8/08
Whether you’re for or against Behringer’s recent wave of classic synth and drum machine remakes, you have to admit it’s taken the industry by storm. It’s a bold move to go after such revered classics, people are either going to love it or hate it.
One such example is the announcement of the Behringer RD-808 – let’s just say debates got so heated that lawyers were involved.
Today marks International 808 Day, and what better day to announce that the hugely anticipated Behringer RD-808 is now shipping.
There have been a few changes since our last article on the product, most notably is the name change. Behringer RD-808 is now the RD-8, I think a clear distinction is necessary considering the wealth of new, more modern features they’ve added – altering the original design quite somewhat.
Some of the new modern features in the RD-808 are, Bass Drum tuning capabilities, DIN MIDI and USB MIDI, individual channel outputs and an effect called “Wave Designer” which is essentially a transient modifier, allowing you to add more punch to the already punch drum sounds of the 808.
Another cryptic Facebook post…
If you’ve been following Behringer lately, then you know they love their cryptic Facebook posts. They haven’t exactly announced that the Behringer RD-808 is shipping, however they have made it pretty damn obvious!
The post features some images, one of a factory-tested unit, the other some freshly sealed and stacked boxes of theRD-808 – with the caption “The w8 is over!”
Behringer have hinted at a price of USD $299 (Around R4600 excl. duties) although we are yet to get 100% confirmation, stay tuned or follow Behringer on Facebook here
