Behringer is in the limelight again after more Facebook spoilers
The team at Behringer seem to have picked up a knack for replicating the rare synth icons that everybody wants.
Another announcement from the Behringer HQ in the form of their next legendary synthesizer replica, the newly-labelled “unstoppable force” in synthesizer manufacturing is taking on the iconic Sequential Circuits Pro-One.
The Pro-One became famous for its compact build and utterly ground-shakingly huge sound. Vintagesynth.com says “it’s responsible for some of the coolest and hardest basslines in electronic music!” which can be heard in the sounds of The Prodigy and Depeche Mode’s Vince Clarke. It was equipped with two VCOs (Voltage Controlled Oscillators), a four-pole filter and 2 envelopes with various modulation possibilities.
Sequential Circuits’ Pro-One had very few, but worthy adversaries – namely the Roland SH-101 and Moog Prodigy (Behringer, I hope you’re reading this!) which offered similar capabilities, however the Pro-One stood on top when it came to the flexible modulation. Only 10000 Pro-One units were ever manufactured making it a very sought-after piece for synth collectors, but also placing it firmly in Uli Behringer’s scope.
Internet is calling it the “Bro-One”
One of the biggest drawbacks of the synths produced during that era, is the lack of MIDI capabilities – which seems to be the first hurdle Behringer tackles with all their replicas, both actual MIDI and USB capabilities.
It’s mostly speculation at this point, as Behringer is being their usual cryptic self with their Facebook posts, however by the looks of it the Behringer “Bro-One” will be made to Eurorack proportion. The front-mounted CV/Gate patch-points and MIDI input also suggest that it will be designed for use with other Modular Synth gear!
Other than the addition of MIDI and USB, it looks like Behringer has stayed true to the original PRO-One design and layout, from the teaser images we can see all the same iconic features in the same format.
Pricing and release date are still to be announced, stay tuned to Behringer’s Facebook page for more announcements.
