The new Audio Technica ATH-M60x – Same quality / better features
The Audio Technica ATH-M60x is based on the well-renowned ATH-M50x headphones although they’re redesigned to be more lightweight and comfortable.
The new Audio Technica ATH-M60x features the same 45mm driver as seen in the ATH-M50x, delivering the same sonic fingerprint of clarity and extended frequency response. The new headphones have been rebuilt into an on-ear design, this means superior isolation. Along with the new memory foam ear pads and headband, they’re certainly much more comfortable than their predecessors and more suited to applications such as location sound or field-recording. Their weight, comfort and audio quality also make them a fantastic option for those long studio sessions.
Comfort wasn’t the core focus of the new Audio Technica ATH-M60x, they’ve also had a slight tweak in the design with regards to durability. The components which are known to take the most stress in headphones have been swapped out for metal components, most notably are the side pieces that connect the cups to the headband. We have all had a pair of headphones break there, so this is a nice feature considering the price point.
Are these set to be more popular than the ATH-M50x?
The new Audio Technica ATH-M60x are the first on-ear in their professional line of monitoring headphones, presenting itself as the first pair that are suited for broadcast and mobile applications. This means we’re probably going to see a lot more broadcast and mobile headphone options from Audio Technica in the future!
The Audio Technica ATH-M60x comes with all of the same accessories as the ATH-M50x, three choices of different interchangeable cables, adapter and protective carrying pouch. They’re set to retail at USD $199 (Around R3000 excl. duties).
