Alexandernaut Link to Midi connects Ableton Link to Midi hardware
Alexandernaut is a San Francisco based software company and they have developed an iOS app that is able to connect any MIDI-compatible device to Ableton’s new LINK technology.
What LINK does is connect compatible iOS apps wirelessly so that multiple iPhone or iPad owners can jam along in sync with each other. However this is isolated to iOS apps that are compatible and before Alexandernaut came along and developed the FREE Link to Midi app, excluded any possibility of connecting your hardware. All that is required is that your hardware supports MIDI clock sync.
You will of course still need an iPhone or iPad to use the Alexandernaut Link to Midi and some sort of Universal MIDI interface to do the actual connecting. We recommend iRig MIDI 2 – it’s readily available in South Africa through Tuerk Music Technologies and their distributor network.
This awesome app will now turn any piece of hardware such as your Roland Aira TR-8 or TB-3 into a fully synced instrument which can then jam along with other users.
Although the Alexandernaut Link to Midi can apparently also link without using Ableton’s LINK, they are recommending (and encouraging) the use of their app with LINK compatible apps and devices.
Grab the FREE Alexandernaut Link to Midi from the App Store.
