3D animation shows how a turntable works
This interactive 3D animation series shows you how a turntable works from the inside. While it’s not all too complicated, it is beneficial to understand how a turntable works if you make regular use of one.
Animagraffs have developed these interactive 3D animations which gives you the chance to see how a turntable works from the inside.
It starts off with a look on what the outside of a turntable is all about. This mirrors the standard Technics SL-1200. Each aspect is numbered and you are given a full description.
Then you get to the inside of the turntable. This part focuses on the difference between direct drive and belt drive models. Direct drive has the motor directly connected to the platter, while the belt-drive has the platter connected to the motor via a belt. When you are DJing, having a direct drive key offers you a more powerful and steady pace of rotation when you are handling the records being mixed.
Following that is the tonearm mechanics with a description of each component including the counterweight, anti-skate, tonearm, and cueing lever.
This is good to know because the weight and angle of the tonearm allows for the stylus to connect to the record’s grooves in the proper way.
The animation even goes into detail, illustrating the way the stylus jumps through the grooves when it is placed on a vinyl. The vinyl technology and the turntables have been around since our grandparents were getting down. But, it remains a frequently used and fascinating way to listen to music.
Understanding how this culturally relevant machine works is something any DJ can appreciate.
There are also other cool animations including how a modular synthesizer works and how speakers make sounds. Check out how a turntable works in the videos.
