Yamaha P45 digital piano Arrives in South Africa
The brand new Yamaha P-45 digital piano arrived in South Africa several weeks back and the notable thing about this new instrument is that it seems aimed very much at the intermediate – read affordable – sector of the market.
Yamaha quality is undisputed and the adage ‘if you buy cheap, you get cheap,’ has seldom applied to their significant range of music instruments and gear.
But lately they seem to have shifted their strategy to also introduce more affordable products that, whilst still offering the familiar standards we’ve come to expect, compete with brands that have been capturing the younger producer/DJ/home studio musician market
The Yamaha P45 seems to be one such product. Not that Yamaha has not considered this sector of the market before; the P35 points to this already – but the Yamaha P45 is somewhat of an upgrade and at an affordable price too.
The Yamaha P45 has 64 note polyphony and also sport a USB port for DAW connectivity but they have done away with conventional midi ports. It is an 8-octave digital piano sporting the full 88 keys and has graded hammer standard weighted keys. If you’re looking for the feel of a traditional piano, that’s what you’ll get on a Yamaha P45.
Using their proprietary ‘Advanced Wave Memory Stereo Sampling‘ technology, the Yamaha P45 sounds close to the real thing. But then Yamaha have a reputation for high quality piano sounds.
Stand out Features
The Yamaha P45 has a dual mode which means it can be played with two voices at once. So in other words you can play both a piano sound and have strings playing at the same time. This is particularly helpful when practising as it enhances everything you play.
There are four types of reverb and also 4 levels of touch response and a selection of demo/preset songs to play along with.
A metronome, a transpose function and tuning calibration are all additional and useful features and of course the USB to HOST connectivity is a must for modern day digital instruments.
Who is the P45 for?
The Yamaha P45 is a digital piano that looks more like a keyboard and is an ideal studio instrument if you are looking to add some authentic piano playing to your productions. Many producers go from basic keyboard playing to wanting to be able to actually play the instrument properly. The P45 is great as both a studio instrument and for anybody looking for a quality digital piano which is reasonably priced too.
