Presonus R Series AMT Monitors

Presonus R Series

The Presonus R Series consists of two derivatives; the R65 and R80.

They are active studio monitors which sport a custom Air Motion Transformer (AMT) tweeter, which to clarify what this is, is a ribbon Tweeter similar to what you’d find on the ADAM A7x for example.

These are said to offer an extremely fast transient response thus providing highly detailed resolution.

The Presonus R Series monitors are biamped with Class D amplifiers with 100watts (RMS) of power to drive the woofer and 50watts (RMS) for the AMT Tweeter.

This makes the Presonus R Series some of the most powerful monitor speakers in their category. Included on both the R65 and R80 are the company’s well known Acoustic Tuning controls.

Anatomy

Both models in the Presonus R Series range use a 6.8-square-inch AMT tweeter which is said to be highly sensitive and therefore will respond to the subtlest of waveforms and high frequencies.

These ultra-high highs means added air n the top range frequencies which gives a broader sense of space as well as a wide lateral dispersion for a broad “sweet spot,” along with very narrow vertical dispersion, which helps reduce ceiling reflections that can muddy the sound. This helps to minimize room anomaly interference, providing a more consistent sound in different listening environments.
