#PLAYSTEMS DJ Mix comp – first prize worth R 36K
#PLAYSTEMS is a DJ mix competition hosted by Native Instruments and Mixcloud and forms part of their 1 year anniversary celebration of the launch of their STEMS file format and the NI STEMS DJ controllers.

First prize valued at R 36K – be judged by Carl Cox
Aside from the chance of winning Native Instruments gear to the value of approximately R 36,000 as a first prize or a 2nd or 3rd runner up prize too, should you enter the #PLAYSTEMS DJ Mix comp you can also feel good about knowing that legendary DJ Carl Cox will be choosing the winners, so there’s a good chance he’ll hear your mix if it cracks the top list (I’d assume he won’t listen to ALL of them).
The first prize for the #PLAYSTEMS comp is an e-voucher valued at 2000 € to spend on the NI Online Store so you can pretty much buy any of the awesome gear or software they produce.

Do you need to own a STEMS controller to enter?
Strictly speaking you don’t need an actual STEMS DJ controller to enter the #PLAYSTEMS DJ Mix comp. This is because in February this year NI released Traktor Pro ver. 2.10.1 which opened up the Traktor decks to show all 4 of the STEMS channels onscreen. Before this update you could only view the individual STEMS on the S8, S5 and D2 onboard screens.

So although it will naturally be easier to mix off one of the aforementioned controllers a set of Traktor F1 controllers will do the job very nicely or your existing 4-channel DJ controller with performance pads could also be mapped for STEMS.
The bottom line is the #PLAYSTEMS comp is a great incentive to try this new music file format out.

Submissions for the #PLAYSTEMS competition end on June 12, 2016 and you will need to record a 30 minute mix and upload this to Mixcloud using the #PLAYSTEMS tag.
