Google AI and Humans to make music together
Humans have been creating music on computers for decades. Now, Google Brain hopes to step it up a notch by developing AI that will write music with humans.
The idea is that the AI will learn and respond according to the input of the human- what the human plays. As we’ve seen in the past with regards to AI beating chess champions and even winning Jeopardy it’s evident that the nature of AI is one of high-speed evolution.
They take our input, work out the kinks, resulting in a seamless output.
Magenta Jam Session
Magenta is the Google Brain off-shoot responsible for the development of next gen music, video, image and text.
They ask whether we can team up with machines to create compelling works of art.
A huge part of the magic that is music is the human aspect of raw emotion – The art of conveying human emotion through song.
Can ‘cold, dead’ machines recreate these emotions and make us FEEL through music. Even electronic music conveys emotion through knowing that a human being sat and produced these tracks.
Is it time for us as humans to evolve beyond our own kind?
This video of an AI responding to the input of a human is remarkable. It literally learns from what you play and builds on it. There is even a further program that plays the drums and bass from what you play on the keyboard. You can literally jam as a complete band!
This is an extremely intriguing project for the future and evolution of music.
We all know that there are no limits to what we can create musically, but can AI help us reach such great heights? It appears that even though they are machines, their intrinsic nature/programming is to improve.
After all, are we not just programs in a vehicle of flesh?
