Red Revenge DJ and Production Store opens in Cape Town
Red Revenge opened its doors on Saturday, 3rd October in Durban Road, Bellville, Cape Town.
What is notable about this new retail store is that firstly it seems to be primarily aimed at DJs, music producers and studios and secondly it also has a fully-fledged training facility in the basement where they will host their Music Production School and also intend opening a DJ School.
Owner Johan Schreuder says he wants Red Revenge to become a central hub for DJs and producers to come and hang out, check out all the latest gear and of course regard Red Revenge as the go-to store for all one’s tech and software needs.
Try Before You Buy
They’ve cleverly used the ‘Try Before You Buy’ tagline as their facilities lend itself toward being able to actually try out a piece of gear before purchasing. In fact even if you’re interested in music production software such as Cubase, Ableton, Reason or FL Studio it seems that might be able to browse though this in store since they have two training rooms, a live room with a drum kit and a tracking room with a fully set up mixing desk downstairs.
Many of the music retail shops in Cape Town have a dedicated ‘Production section’ but of course are predominantly music instrument stores. One can still source a lot of the gear through these for studio and DJ use but it doesn’t seem to be their primary focus.
Likewise Red Revenge also stock a limited range of musical instruments too, mainly KORG and VOX but a quick glance around will leave you in no doubt that for DJs and producers this store really does come into its own. The same way you can test out a guitar or keyboard at a regular music retail store, at Red Revenge you can test a DJ controller or midi keyboard which is something we’ve not seen before in Cape Town [Not to our knowledge].
Prior to opening the retail store Red Revenge has been schooling students in Cubase and music production for the past few years and their new facilities for this are excellent. Owner Johan says that aside from the regular courses in music production (Cubase and soon Ableton) they will also be hosting regular workshops on Saturdays for DJs and producers to learn more about the latest tools available in the market.
