SquareTrade, Inc tests the strength of the glass backs of the new range of smart phones coming out.
The new swanky phones coming from Apple and Samsung, namely the iPhone 8, the iPhone 8 Plus and the Galaxy Note 8 come with state-of0the-art features.
One such feature is the glass back. With phones, a glass back may be cause for concern.
Apple naturally claims it to be “the most durable glass ever in a smartphone.”
The glass may be “the most durable” ever, but does this prevent fractures from occurring from every day falls that are a natural risk of owning a phone?
SquareTrade put them to the test!
Hold the phone
The test was comprised of various ‘drop scenarios’ in which each smartphone took part in.
It included:
-A ‘6 foot drop’ from each side, in which all phones cracked and glass loosened.
– A shot drop test (as if flinging your phone), and were met with damage. Minimal damage but damage nonetheless.
-The third and final test was a 60 second tumble test. Once again damage ensued.
They then tested the fix ability of the phones and put all the scores together giving them a grand total in the breakability score.
The iPhone 8 scored the best, with the lowest breakability score of 67/100.
In second place was the iPhone 8 Plus with the medium breakability score of 74/100.
Sorry for all the Android fans but the Galaxy Note 8 came in last place with the highest breakability score of 80/100 as well as a complete loss of function following a fall.
