YouTube’s streaming offering is now available in South Africa.
The Google company launched the app in South Africa on Tuesday, which offers music videos, official albums, singles, remixes, live performances, covers and hard-to-find music.
Asha Patel, Head of Marketing at Google SA says the app offers ““a home screen that dynamically adapts to provide recommendations based on what you’ve played before, where you are and what you’re doing”.
In terms of being offline, Patel says don’t worry because with YouTube Music you can listen ad-free, in the background and on-the-go with downloads.
“Plus, your Offline Mixtape automatically downloads songs you love just in case you forgot to,” explained Patel.
Another valuable feature is smart search, which allows users to find songs they love even if they can’t remember the title.
Open the world of music. It’s all here
We all know how amazing YouTube is regarding its ‘recommend’ side bar. Now imagine that technology in a music app form. Now take that imagination and experience it in reality.
YouTube Music serves music based on your tastes and what’s moving the community around you. Discover something new or keep up with what’s trending.
Once the app has been downloaded, it opens onto a split screen where you are asked to choose between the basic service or the premium service (3-moth free trial and then R59.99/month.
Basic allows you to play songs without shuffling and gives you access to official songs and remixes.
Premium gives you the basic features plus ad-free music, background play and downloads.
For those already signed up for Google Play Music, “Google Play Music subscribers will automatically receive access to YouTube Music Premium at their current price,” said Patel.
“Nothing is changing with Google Play Music – you’ll still be able to access all of your purchased music, uploads and playlists in Google Play Music just like always.”
