Watch the trailer for Climax, the LSD-fuelled dance party film
Climax because life is a fleeting pleasure.
Gaspar Noe, the Argentinian director behind such provocative works such as Enter the Void and Irreversible (which caused walk-outs and fainting fits in 2002) is back to full strength this year with the release of a dance filmed of hallucinogenic proportions.
The film premiered at Cannes Festival earlier this year, where it won the Art Cinema Award out of the Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight lineup, and will be released on September 28, 2018.
The film stars Sofia Boutella, and as the Telegraph says it “follows a group of dancers on an intensive residential course at a school on the outskirts of Paris, whose post-rehearsal punchbowl is spiked with some unknown hallucinatory substance, bringing on a speedy mass descent into Noéan psychosis. Graphic self-mutilation and orgiastic sex ensue, all captured in the director’s trademark undulating camera moves, punctuated by title cards which offer mottos such as ‘death is a unique opportunity’, and set to a throbbing backing track of vintage techno, house and electronic music.”
Sip on some Sangria
Thomas Bangaltar from Daft Punk contributed a track to the film, aptly titled Sangria. The track is joined by some of Bangaltar’s previously released music like What to Do as well as Daft Punk’s Rollin and Scratching.
This is not the first time Bangaltar has worked with Noe; he also contributed to Noe’s 2002 film Irreversible and Enter the Void in 2009.
Watch the trailer for Climax below, it certainly looks like a worthwhile trip.
