Tricky autobiography to be published end October
The Tricky autobiography takes a look at the life of Bristol’s premier trip hop pioneer.
Bristol’s premier trip hop pioneer Tricky is publishing his autobiography, Hell is Round the Corner via Blink this Halloween.
Adrian Nicholas Matthews Thaws, AKA Tricky, is a producer, DJ, musician, singer and MC hailing from Bristol in the UK. He began his career as an early collaborator of Massive Attack before embarking on a solo career with his debut album, Maxinquaye in 1995.
He went on to release four albums before the end of the 90’s and has released eight studio albums since 2000.
A pioneer of trip hop, Tricky’s work is noted for its dark, layered musical style that blends disparate cultural and influences seamlessly together. He has worked with a plethora of artists throughout his career, including Terry Hall, Björk, Gravediggaz, Grace Jones, and PJ Harvey.
Hell is Round the Corner
The autobiography chronicles Tricky’s childhood, including the impact losing his mother to suicide at age 4 had on aspects of his life, as well as his rise to musical prominence and influence on UK electronic, experimental and downtempo music.
The book also takes readers on a tour of underground cultures of the 1980s, namely the UK hip hop that inspired him, as well as festivals, squatting and Jamaican sound systems.
Hell is Round the Corner was written in collaboration with music journalist Andrew Perry and features contributions from figures from Tricky’s life including former gangsters, family members, and musical legends like Terry Hall.
The Tricky autobiography Hell is Round the Corner will be available via Blink on October 31.
