Tomorrowland UNITE launches in South Africa
Tomorrowland UNITE will be an indoor event in South Africa on Saturday the 23rd of July that will act as a mirror event for the official Tomorrowland festival. The party will be taking place at the Ticketpro dome in Joburg.
A mirror event?
Tomorrowland UNITE promises to bring forth all the magic and flair that the Tomorrowland festival is known for. You will be able to simultaneously experience the international festival taking place on the other side of the world here in South Africa… indoors at the Nasrec Expo Centre.
Well not quite, but kind of….
The headline acts will be on big screens, streamed to you live so you will be able to experience the big EDM stars screaming at you first hand to “make some f$cking noise!!!”
From what we have gathered from the press release Tomorrowland UNITE will be supplemented by local DJs who will keep the crowd entertained in between the streaming headliners – or perhaps on a second floor… or maybe even more than 2 dancefloors!!!
It is believed that the Tomorrowland festival brand is so powerful that a spin off event simply screening their live acts while putting on a fireworks display could attract big numbers and sell tickets.
This live video feed connected to the festival in Belgium will be broadcasted to seven other countries, including South Africa.
Similar parties will be held in Mexico, Colombia, Germany, Israel, Japan, and India too; therefore making the name Tomorrowland UNITE a fitting one.
These broadcast parties being put together under the banner of Tomorrowland is evidence of how the owners of the brand are attempting to make full use of the festival’s profit potential. It’s also a far less financially risky.
Will Tomorrowland UNITE work?
It probably will. Every other envelope that has been pushed to squeeze each last dollar out of EDM seems to have worked, at least short term, so we have no doubt that the novelty of pretending you’re at Tomorrowland in Belgium will attract a sizable crowd if it is well put together.
Face it. The fantasy that is Tomorrowland has been sold so successfully across the world that anyone who may have even heard the EDM acronym could be frothing to go, even if the event they are attending is merely a live screening (streaming) of the actual festival.
Fan parks have worked for sport so why not do the same for EDM right?
But ticket prices will have to be right and the overall experience will need to be spot on for it to be more than just a fan park dressed up as a festival.
The sales blurb
“It feels great to perform at Tomorrowland but the feeling that also ten thousands of people are also partying in 7 other countries is incredible. We think UNITE can definitely bring a part of Belgium to South Africa!” said Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike
An excerpt from their press statement…
“Tomorrowland is the biggest international festival on the planet. Literally the whole world comes together once a year at De Schorre, with more nationalities participating in Tomorrowland than the Olympic Games.”
The Tomorrowland UNITE full line-up and tickets will be announced on Monday 16 May 2016.
