Legendary bar, The Shack, may close down soon
The Shack is by far one of the greatest hang-out spots in Cape Town.
With its multiple bars each playing different styles of music as well as pool tables and fooseball tables you can find whatever your heart desires at Shack.
It is a haven for students, young working and everyone in between looking for a ‘chilled’ vibe with the greatest music and the golden (or silver) flow of tequila caressing our lives.
Sadly, with the developmental surge that is taking place in the CDB, Shack joins other legendary establishments in closing. Drunken strongholds like Mr Pickwicks, Rafiki’s and The Corner House have seen this same fate, as we
see Cape Town demolish legends in favour of ‘modern fake-authentic hangouts.’
Although it may seem like a rumour, there is confirmation of this tragedy.
Shackles
There are new owners of De Villiers Street and they are looking to demolish the old to make room for the new.
In an official response, Shack sheds light, the darkness that is the truth.
Throughout all the rumours that have been floating around over the years, they maintain that Shack was never for sale. But as developments ensue all around them, including ETV moving next door as well as developments around the Engen, Shack has become a mighty attractive location for corporates and investors alike.
They have received offers of monumental amounts, so naturally negotiations were inevitable. There is no set time for when the end will be upon them, and us, as discussions and plans are in motion, under submission.
This means that we may still have a few years of Shack glory in store.
They will run as usual until the time comes and promise to keep everyone in the loop.
So make the most of the time we still have at this legendary nest and support and enjoy The Shack to
the full.
