Subterranean Wavelength Vol 4 Durban released
The Subterranean Wavelength Vol 4 Durban electronica compilation is here to introduce the world to the city’s underground electronica talent.
Subterranean Wavelength Vol 4 has been compiled by Joburg based producer, Micr.Pluto. The club scene in the sea side city is a small one that is dominated by sounds such as rock, house, trap, and of course gqom.
Micr.Pluto made it his mission to put together a compilation of some of the best electronica producers in Durban and served it up as the Subterranean Wavelength Vol 4.
“It’s very DIY here, in terms of everything, including venues a lot of the time. People moving to JHB or CPT (or elsewhere) once they’ve hit the ceiling of what they can achieve here also helps slow things down from time to time, but I guess that helps Durban keep a very original flavour. The underground electronic music scene is very close to non-existent. But there are a few people coming up now, and I’m sure there are new people clicking away in their bedrooms as I type. We got hella DJs though, electronic music isn’t some kinda secret around here or anything, I’m just hoping more people start making their own.” Said Micr.Pluto to OkayAfrica
Durban is coming alive
The laid back atmosphere of the city extends itself to its music scene and Durban’s producers put out work when creativity strikes. For this and other reasons, Durban hasn’t quite seemed to show the potential that is visible in music scenes in Cape Town and Joburg for example. Another opinion is that more emphasis is placed on DJing rather than the producers.
As with anything, growth takes time and often it requires a few innovators to move the scene into higher planes of success. Durban could very well bloom into a music hub in no time.
