A new study reveals that Vaping may cause cancer, but more evidence needed
Put the pipe down as new study reveals that Vaping causes cancer.
To all those that believe that Vaping is safe, think again.
E-cigarette smoke (ECS) delivers nicotine through aerosols (vapour) without burning tobacco, thus seeming devoid of the carcinogens found in normal cigarettes.
A new study conducted by New York University reveals that Vaping may cause cancer due to DNA mutations.
In the study, cultured human bladder and lung cells were subjected to e-cigarette vapour, which is designed to evade carcinogenic by-products of tobacco.
Adversely they found that cells mutated and became cancerous at a much higher rate than was expected, with mice also suffering significant DNA damage after exposure to the smoke.
These findings come a mere days after the FDA rejected Philip Morris’ new and ‘healthy’ iQOS vaping product.
Up in smoke!
In recent times, Vaping has become the safer option for smoking, and although e-cig smokers had 97% less carcinogens in their body compared to tobacco smokers, it still isn’t the safest option- duh.
Dr Mehmet Kesimer, who led the study said: “There is confusion about whether e-cigarettes are ‘safer’ than cigarettes because the potential adverse effects of e-cigarettes are only beginning to be studied.
“Our results suggest that e-cigarettes might be just as bad as cigarettes.”
That’s the thing- there was a time when people though that tobacco cigarettes were ‘healthy,’ and everyone smoked everywhere, even in hospitals.
Vaping is the new kid on the smoking block and although studies have been conducted, it will take a good few years before we will see the long-term effects on health.
Whether Vaping causes cancer, we need more research.
