Stay True South Africa
Stay True South Africa is an event put together by the ‘Stay True Journeys’ series, which explores and celebrates the stories of the world’s most vibrant music scenes.
‘Stay True South Africa’ will take place on the 5th of March 2015 and feature’s the world’s leading underground music platform, Boiler Room, coming to South Africa. It will be a one night only party in Johannesburg. A top tier house music event in Joburg of course won’t ever be complete without the likes of Black Coffee, Culoe de Song, Shimza, and Black Motion. The addition of one of my personal favourites on the line up, new wave rap electro artist Okmalumkoolkat, is also nice to see.
Boiler Room will broadcast the event live online through the Boilerroom.TV/StayTrue microsite. That way even if you aren’t attending you get to tune in and check it out.
“We always thought that house was big internationally, because that’s where we got it from. But I’ve realized that we have the biggest house scene in the world in South Africa,” says Black Coffee.
“There is a lot of energy, a lot of hunger, a lot of kids getting into house music. It’s our time now and it’s exciting.” Culoe De Song
‘Stay True South Africa’ will wrap up with a production of an online documentary, shot on location in Johannesburg. The aim of the film would be to take SA and the world on a journey through South Africa’s house music scene. You’ll be able to view the documentary around early April on Boilerroom.tv.
And this is where it gets really special, tickets are not for sale and you can only win tickets through the event sponsor Ballantine’s SA and Boiler Room channels. In true underground style, the venue will be revealed to ticket holders just days before the event.
Starting on the 2nd of February, you will be invited to take part in telling South Africa’s own house music story. When you share a piece of #StayTrueToTheMix content, you’ll be given the opportunity to register to be in line to win double tickets to the Boiler Room & Ballantine’s experience.
