Spotify acquires SoundBetter, the music talent marketplace
Spotify acquires SoundBetter, descried as the “de facto LinkedIn for music professionals.”
Spotify has just acquired music talent marketplace SoundBetter, which will allow artists and other music industry figures to connect and collaborate using the service through Spotify For Artists.
“SoundBetter is the world’s leading music talent marketplace, helping musicians and labels worldwide connect and collaborate with top music professionals so they can get to great-sounding release-ready songs. Their comprehensive database of creative professionals allow you to directly hire tens of thousands of top producers, singers, songwriters, mixing and mastering engineers, and session musicians,” Spotify said.
“At the same time, it enables creative professionals to market their services outside their local network, reach new clients, and get work. SoundBetter offers tools for talent discovery, project management, payment facilitation, and a review system that has elevated transparency and trust in a reputation-based music production industry, Spotify added.”
Revenue stream
SoundBetter provides a glimpse of how Spotify will generate revenue from its Spotify For Artists feature.
“We charge our providers a small commission for jobs we facilitate. Providers are happy to pay this commission because they get job leads, project management tools, increased trust and security and verified reviews which add to their online reputation,” SoundBetter said in its FAQ.
With over 400,00 artists currently using Spotify For Artists, those these small commissions from using SoundBetter will provide revenue for the streaming giant.
“SoundBetter will continue operating as usual, and, over the coming months, we’ll be investing in making the experience even better,” Spotify said.
