Soundcloud Private Tracks made public by mistake
Soundcloud private tracks were erroneously made public by the cloud-based streaming site the other day (6th Sept).
The private tracks were public for 5 hours in which time anybody lucky enough to stumble across some of their favourite labels or artists may have been able to download unreleased music.
Naturally there has been a degree of condemnation by certain artists/labels while others have been a little more reserved.
Labels and artists use the Soundcloud private tracks feature to share music with a select group of people. It’s ideal for producers when pitching to labels or for sharing with other producers/DJs and some labels use the feature to send out promos to their promo list.
While we don’t think this error will cause thousand s of users to jump ship to Orfium just yet, it certainly is another bit of negative publicity the somewhat beleaguered platform could do without.
What is Orfium you ask? You can read about the alternative to Soundcloud right here.
To be fair to Soundcloud though, they did put out a press statement which in all honesty was the only way many users who use the Soundcloud private tracks option even discovered that there was a problem.
Soundcloud explains
Here is the official statement re: the Soundcloud private tracks being breached.
