SoundCloud Premier Distribution will upload your tracks to major streaming platforms

Ever-innovative SoundCloud is diving into distribution, free of charge (kind of.)

Its Premier distribution feature, currently in beta, is a service that will upload SoundCloud Pro and SoundCloud Pro Unlimited users’ original music to major streaming services like Spotify, YouTube Music, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Instagram and more so producers can get paid for plays.

Getting back to the ‘free of charge’ bit, SoundCloud has promised not to take a cut of royalties from streams, allowing content creators to keep 100% of their distribution royalties and 100% of their rights- at no additional cost.

Of course, you are paying $6/month for SoundCloud Pro and $12/month for Pro Unlimited, meaning it might not be worth it depending on the size of your catalogue and how many streams you get on the other platforms. SoundCloud will be making a huge chunk of change from new subscriptions, which is the point.

How to qualify

So besides subscribing to SoundCloud’s Pro and Pro Unlimited services, users must:

– Be 18 years of age or older

– Have no copyright strikes

– Have at least 1,000 monetizable track plays

– Be “creators of original music” (i.e. no copyrighted materials or samples can feature in your work)

The lucky ones identified by the platform as “eligible users” are due to receive an email about the Premier distribution service in the coming weeks.

Nearly-defeated SoundCloud has made a major comeback, having doubled revenue in 2017 and it’s only the beginning it seems.
