Soundcloud mixes will no longer be removed for copyright infringement
Soundcloud mixes won’t be taken down anymore due to copyright issues. This goes for both the free and paying Soundcloud subscribers.
This latest bit of great news regarding Soundcloud DJ mixes came about while the company was negotiating terms for the paid service, Soundcloud Go. They manage to seal deals with licensing groups such as GEMA so that DJ mixes on the site will not be removed.
“These problems with the introduction of SoundCloud Go are a thing of the past, and also for users who do not subscribe. During the negotiations for our subscription service as well as an agreement was with collecting societies like GEMA achieved in Germany. This means that DJ mixes can now be legally and problem-free on SoundCloud. So this is a very positive news for DJs,” said Eric Wahlforss, Soundcloud co-founder.
No more hassles?
The taking down of Soundcloud mixes was a sore point for many of its users. This new rule will help make the site more user friendly.
Before, you could stand to have your mixes or account deleted if music on it matched material on a database of tracks that copyright holders have asked Soundcloud to block.
A few weeks ago Soundcloud also announced that artists would start to get paid for the music that they stream from their accounts.
This deal ensuring the safety of Soundcloud mixes is a sensible and logical move that will ensure the streaming site’s survival. Both Apple and Spotify now offer unofficial mixes too. This reflects the desire for mixes is a strong one amongst users. Having a steady supply of fresh DJ mixes is vital in order to run a successful music streaming service. People enjoy listening to their favourite tracks as much as they enjoy turning up a mix in their favourite genre and pressing play on a session of non-stop listening.
