Happy Birthday, Sneaker Exchange!
Tomorrow, 27 October, Africa’s largest sneaker expo SXC will be commemorating its 5th birthday in Johannesburg.
Having started in 2013 with only 80 sneaker fans to growing to 4000 attendees, this project has seen exponential growth, year-on-year; let’s just say they have strong ties!
SXC will be at the Fox Junction tomorrow from 11:00-19:00 and pre-sale tickets are available online for R80 per person, and R100 gets you in at the door.
The event will be hosted by Jade John and Smash Afrika and will feature a day full of live entertainment from the likes of headline act Okmalumkoolkat, preceded by Anatii, YoungstaCPT, Red Button, Veezus and Moozlie. Local DJs in attendance consist of an all-star female DJ line-up featuring Ms Cosmo, Doowap and Pink Molly.

SXC is the brainchild of one of South Africa’s most notable sneaker collectors and aficionados, Zaid Osman, who had a passion for building the sneaker and street culture in South Africa. In 2015, fellow sneaker head Tebogo Mogola joined forces with Osman.
Sharing a passion for sneakers and its culture, the dynamic duo has been commissioned to curate sneaker exhibits across Africa, as well as pop-up experiences throughout the country.
“The whole premise of the event is that it’s about sharing the love of a culture few people know about or understand,” says founder and director Osman. “I created this event so that I could share my passion for sneakers with others and so we welcome anyone and everyone to Sneaker Exchange.” He continues, “Seeing the growth of the event over the past five years has been phenomenal and I’d love to thank everyone for supporting our dream.”
SXC is known as the place where sneaker collectors and aficionados can buy, sell or trade sneakers, as well as buy locally and internationally produced apparel and footwear, SXC is more than a product expo.
