Skrillex criticizes Deadmau5’s negative attitude
Skrillex criticizes Deadmau5 for his negative attitude in a recent interview with 92.3 AMPRadio in New York which, predictably has got online media talking… including us.
Deadmau5 was Skrillex’s mentor in his earlier days and released his second EP Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites back in 2010. Recently Deadmau5 took a jab at Skrillex’s ‘Jack U’ project with Diplo and the track “Where Are Ü Now” with Justin Bieber. He even went so far as to post a parody of the track and replaced the violin sample with a kazoo.
In the interview Skrillex criticizes Deadmau5 for his attitude by saying the following:
“I’ll always have love for Joel [deadmau5] because he put me on at an early time, but he’s an asshole. Everyone knows that, and he knows that. And that’s kinda his thing. The one thing that is unfortunate about it is that he has a record label. And when you have a record label, you gotta be a leader. And he has people that are like signed to him. And I couldn’t imagine being a leader, you know, going out in the public image being such a negative attitude.”
He seems to have this diplomacy thing down. Skrillex criticizes Deadmau5 but also insists that he doesn’t take anything personally because he is secure in what he does and loves his job. Then he said something that I’m sure many have already assumed about Joel, and that is that he acts this way in order to get attention.
“I almost feel bad that that’s his one way of getting attention rather than going into music and curating. I think his attitude’s changed over the last couple years. I personally have become less connected to his music because his personality is almost overshadowing that, when he is such an incredible artist.” Said Skrillex
Anyone who’s heard of Deadmau5 knows about his outspoken qualities and a reliably negative attitude which he regularly shows off on his social media. He does rant so often that it’s become part of his personality and hardly raises any eyebrows.
Surprisingly Deadmu5’s response which went onto Twitter of course appeared heartfelt and perhaps only slightly sarcastic.
“I’m aware that I can be a fucking diva. I am aware that I have more than one complex. Very fucking aware. At the end of the fucking day, if I’m ‘miserable / moody / negative’, then that’s just me dealing with or not dealing [with] internal shit.” Wrote Deadmau5
