Six year old does Kraftwerk cover with his dad
Kratwerk cover was done by six year old Hudson with his dad Andrew, and it is adorable. The first time they ventured on doing a cover, the boy’s father came up with the idea after noticing a noisy Daffy Duck head, a toy rabbit, and chess board around his son’s room.
He used the objects to create a cover of Daft Punk’s ‘Voyager’ from the ‘Discovery’ album. The dad, who studied music at Rutgers, wanted to incorporate electronic music into play time for his son and at that point he boy was three years old.
Their latest is the Kraftwerk cover of ‘The Robots’ which came out in 1978. Hudson plays lead synth lines on a Korg ARP Odyssey while his father jams on a Moog, while both of them contribute to the vocals.
For the Kraftwerk cover both of them are sporting orange shirts with black ties and hair that is slicked back. They even do the robot dance because putting on a performance requires the full experience.
Thump interviewed the father and son duo to understand their process a little better. Here are a few quotes…
“I try to introduce music and ideas through playtime. When we hang out in my synth room, music is a bonding thing for us. I found that I can’t even teach Hudson so much, he seems to do better when I let him discover things on his own. We took our time. The attention span of a six-year-old is limited. I showed him how to program the Teenage Engineering pocket operators [a line of handheld synthesizers]. He was able to learn how to program the beats!” Said Andrew
Hudson talks about his favourite music:
“A lot of, like, Michael Jackson and Daft Punk. Oh, and I like Mozart!”
and why he loves Daft Punk…
“I really like robots. And they’re robots and stuff and their music is really cool and they’re really great.”
When asked what he wants to be when he grows up, is answer is even cooler”
“Um, I don’t know yet. What I’m thinking right now is secret agent.”
