Second Annual Cape Flats Film Festival starts today
Emile YX? & Heal The Hood Project will be hosting the 2nd Annual Cape Flats Film Festival.
The Cape Flats Film Festival was born out of the need to change the negative stereotype projected on YouTube and various media about the Cape Flats. The youth they work with pointed out how one story is being told about them and they have decided to take action by creating alternatives like “Positive Poster Day” and Cape Flats Film Festival, where they challenge young people to record themselves saying that they are part of the good majority.
Last year they recorded a great deal of young people saying this and now they plan to spread the word again.
Speaking out
Emile YX? Jansen just won the regional LeadSA hero for his work and encouraged the Good Majority to speak out and take action to shift the perception and make good people feel like they are winning against the sea of negative media, now amplified even more so by social media.
Here are the dates and venues for the 2nd Annual Cape Flats Film Festival.
It has been completely funded independently both locally and internationally.
