In a statement, RiSA CEO Nhlanhla Sibisi expressed his excitement:
“We are still committed to the practice of openness and transparency and a fair selection process. We release these entries for the industry and music supporters to be kept abreast of the developments as we progress through the stages of the Sama. We also do so to avoid any surprises when we announce the final nomination list in the next few weeks.”
The most popular categories are as follows:
- Best Music Video of the Year: 127 entries
- Best Collaboration: 100
- Best Produced Album: 86
- Best Dance Album: 53
To get in your category on the big night, record labels and interested parties were invited to submit entries over a period of 3 months, starting from November 2018 and ending in February 2018.
There, entrants were strung through a strict vetting process overseen by RiSA officials and record company representatives, ensuring that all entries were eligible.
Those who ticked the boxes were handed over to a panel of independent judges drawn from the likes of radio, TV, newspaper, blogs and the recording industry for judging.
The end of the submission process will see 5 nominees chosen per category.
