SABC concert to be held as a tribute to themselves
An SABC concert will act as a tribute to the broadcaster, organised and hosted by themselves. The event has been named the ‘Thank You SABC Music Concert’.
The SABC concert is looking to fill up the Orlando stadium with forty thousand bodies. Previously there has not been much media coverage on the event. But recently, the SABC sent out a media release in order to make it clear that they are supporting the concert, hosted by themselves that is all about thanking themselves.
“The SABC has welcomed the Thank You SABC Concert‚ and all the artists that will perform have embraced, and are proud of, the public broadcaster’s initiative to prioritise and support local music. Mr Motsoeneng says that this cross-pollination of music is very important for the public broadcaster‚ because part of our mandate is to tell the South African story and music plays an important part in ensuring that the SABC fulfills this mandate.” said the statement
The Event
The event will take place on Saturday and is said to have artists like Emtee, Black Coffee, Kwesta, and Mafikizolo on the line up.
They will also be giving away free tickets to one thousand valid TV licence holders. For the rest of the attendees it will cost R 100 per ticket.
SABC chief operating officer Hlaudi Motsoeneng is even convinced that the concert could make it into the Guinness Book of Records…
“We are promoting a brand. Even CNN or Al Jazeera or BBC has never had a concert where people in London or artists in London will say ‘Thank you CNN or BBC’. It means what we are doing must go to the Guinness Book of Records.”
The SABC concert will most likely come at a high cost for the struggling broadcaster, totals on the exact expenditure have not been released.
