SA woman arrested at Indian airport with 4.9 kgs of methaqualone
An SA woman was discovered with 4.9 kg of the party drug known as methaqualone in ten cardboard envelopes.
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) arrested her at the Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport. Methaqualone and is produced in India and Ethiopia. The drug is known to offer the users a sense of euphoria along with other un-clarified effects.
Her name has been released as Vanessa De Kock and she has been in India for almost a month. Allegedly she attempted to sway authorities by rescheduling and cancelling her trip back home before making the final booking.
They were onto to her…
Apparently, these drug bureaus were already onto her and were working on many different angles to catch her in the act. Reportedly, she was caught with the help of officials and agencies from Ethiopian airways. If she had known that they were this hot on her trail she might have gone home without taking the methaqualone with her. But leaving 5 kgs of a party drug behind means someone has to pay for the merch and considering the seedy world of illicit drugs, leaving the methaqualone behind was probably not an option.
It doesn’t seem like this was a random party drug stop and search. She got intercepted at the airlines terminal and they found the ten cardboard envelopes of the methaqualone hidden in her clothes.
“There is an Ethiopian Airways flight to Ethiopia at 11:30 am every day, and we were watching the daily fliers’ list. The accused had earlier booked a ticket to Addis Ababa on March 14 and then on March 18, but never showed up. She then booked a ticket on the March 28 flight, but showed up on Sunday morning instead. The airline allows passengers to cancel their tickets for a later date and get a ticket on the spot for a fine,” said an AIU officer.
