Ryanodex to counteract hyperthermia from MDMA
There is a drug known as Ryanodex that claims to counteract the onset of hyperthermia in those high on MDMA. The purpose behind the drug is to protect those who choose to take MDMA from possible severe effects.
One of the most common side effects of taking MDMA is hyperthermia. Ryanodex is said to act as an “ice pack for the brain” which is one of the organs affected when the party drug is ingested.
Overheating due to drug use can be quite dangerous for the body, specifically when those instances occur because of speed or ecstasy.
This is going to sound scary but according to a report in the LA Times an emergency room director said…
“The heat triggered by the drugs can reach the kind of temperatures that there’s no other way to describe it other than it will melt your organs and do damage to your organs to the point you will die.”
Ryanodex was first developed to treat malignant hyperthermia which is “a pharmacogenetic disease that causes a fast rise in body temperature and severe muscle contractions when an affected person receives general anaesthesia using volatile anaesthetics or succinylcholine.”
The anti-overheating drug is currently undergoing a clinical trial in the US and if it is found to be safe then it may become a new emergency treatment for those experiencing MDMA poisoning, starting next year.

Ryanodex is an injectable drug and could be a last resort life saver for anyone over doing it at a festival or party.
If there’s even a chance that this drug could help save lives, then this is fantastic news. It’s great to know that instead of pretending that people don’t take drugs at parties and then act shocked when people OD at hospital; scientists are actively working to save lives.
