Ryan Murgatroyd robbed, studio ransacked – help find his gear
Ryan Murgatroyd robbed, but luckily, he walked away with his life and album.
On Wednesday, 20 March house hero Ryan Murgatroyd went through a harrowing ordeal when 4 armed men broke into his house, bound him, beat him and ransacked his house.
In a lengthy Instagram post, Ryan recounted the details of this horrific incident and gross violation of one’s personal space.
Ryan was set to leave his house because of load shedding but couldn’t find his bike keys. When the power didn’t go out, he decided to get stuck into a “powerful studio sesh.”
Having just eaten a spoon of cannabis oil, getting into that musical space he heard a noise but decided to not give in to paranoia…
Next thing he was surrounded by 4 heavily armed men who proceeded to tie him up, stick a gun at the back of his head, pistol whip him, beat him all while having him show them where all the valuables are.
After cleaning out the house they still seemed unsatisfied and restless, so he showed them his studio.
“Please bro, dont kill me and even more importantly, dont take the computer drive with the entire unreleased album on it,” he begged.
They packed up the whole studio but left the mac mini with the album and left him bound and locked in his empty studio crying tears of joy that he hadn’t lost his entire life’s work or his life.
Even luckier is the fact that his girlfriend left his house minutes before the attack, shuddering to think what could have been.
Among the gear that was stolen is:
- SPL Kultube
- Moog Mother 32
- Waldorf Pulse
- Adam A7s
Ryan is offering a handsome reward for any information that could lead to the recovery of his gear, so if you see any of these items around, get in touch with him.

The power was meant to go out at 8pm last night, and I was due to leave my house but I couldn’t find my bike keys. At 8:10 the power was still on and I, having just eaten a monstrous spoon of cannabis oil l, was getting ready for powerful studio seah. I was sure I heard a noise but I thought ‘no chance im getting robbed right now, dont be paranoid’. Two seconds later there are four heavily armed dudes in my room, im on the floor with a gun at the back of my head getting kicked and pistol whipped. I got tied up and forced to show them the valuables in the house and even after they cleaned it out, they seemed restless, agitated, and increasingly violent.. and I knew I only had one more play.. open the door to the studio and let them ransack it in the hope that all the expensive gear would occupy their attention and would stop them from disposing of me. I had seen all their faces and for a few minutes, was utterly convinced that i was a goner. In the midst of the chaos I managed to make eye contact with the leader and begged like I’ve never begged before… please bro, dont kill me and even more importantly, dont take the computer drive with the entire unreleased album on it. I think they saw in my eyes something that made them take pity on me, and they had packed up the entire studio but DIDNT take the mac mini with the album. They left me bound on my hands and feet with a 1/4 jack to jack cable, locked me in the empty studio and fled with a collection of irrepleacceable analogue gear, but not a single one of my files. Needless to say, after establishing they were gone and checking my wounds, I cried tears of joy that I hadn’t lost my life or my work. Even luckier, my girlfriend had left my house just a few minutes before (I shudder to think how much worse this would be have been if she was there) either me or them would certainly not been breathing today. This is not a cry for sympathy or pity, but it is a reminder that you cant take chances in this place, and that if you see an SPL Kultube, Moog Mother 32, Waldorf Pulse or Adam A7s running around, I have a very large reward out for any info that lets me catch these motherfuckers and have a little chat with them
