Humanity Star, the giant Disco Ball goes to space
Rocket Lab has sent a giant disco ball named Humanity Star to light up our skies.
In an effort to bring the people of Earth together, a giant disco ball now roams our skies, visible for all to see.
The gargantuan reflective sphere was created by the American start-up firm Rocket Lab.
Humanity Star was launched from Mahia in New Zealand on the 21 st of January, where the Rocket Lab team has developed the world’s first private orbital launch range.
Spanning one-meter- tall, the carbon-fibre geodesic sphere is made up of 65 highly-reflective panels.
Orbiting Earth every 90 minutes, Humanity Star will spin from space, reflecting the sun’s light back to earth which can be seen by all, especially those in America.
A shiny orbiting disco ball- the rave in the sky
The aim of the giant disco ball is fairly unclear, but here is a statement from Rocket Lab CEO Peer Beck: “No matter where you are in the world, or what is happening in your life, everyone will be able to see the Humanity Star in the night sky. For us to thrive and survive, we need to make big decisions in the context of humanity as a whole, not in the context of individuals, organizations or even nations. We must come together as a species to solve the really big issues like climate change and resource shortages.”
We’re still unclear about what benefits Humanity Star will have; maybe it can serve as a beacon for aliens to find us. =P
