Resonate streaming service plans to offer sustainable streaming business model
Resonate streaming service is relaunching with a new site and player.
Streaming has brought about a huge paradigm shift in music, but now it’s time for another, more ethical shift that will see artists being paid what they deserve.
This is something Berlin-based streaming service Resonate is on a mission to create.
In a blog post, Resonate unveiled changes made to the service, including:
- Completely new design and branding
- A single player for the whole service
- Phasing out code from the volunteer stage
- Framework for future growth and development
- Open sourcing of our codebase
“This new launch is much more than just a new identity,” Resonate says. “It also marks the beginning of a fundamental shift towards scalability and sustainability, as this event opens the third distinct stage in our collective efforts to bring a meaningful, fair-trade streaming alternative to life.”
If you Resonate, try it
What sets Resonate apart as a streaming service is their ‘Stream2own’ model, which splits the cost of a digital download into 9 plays, which start off cheap and is paid off and belongs to you after the 9 plays.
For listeners there is no monthly fees and overall cost is similar to that of the average monthly streaming subscription, with the added benefit of the artists responsible for your blissful listening getting paid more.
Comparatively artists would receive $1,526 for 100,000 plays on Resonate versus $600 from its competitors (based on an average royalty amount).
That’s more than double, for doing the same basic thing.
We all know and use Spotify but unfortunately they rank as the service with one of the worst pay-per-stream rates, with artists needing around 336 842 total plays to earn $1 472 which is a disgrace considering without artists there is no music and no streaming service.
Watch out for Resonate, they are making things happen, with new features on the horizon, including:
- Embeddable players
- New upload tool for artists
- Shareable, curatable playlists
- Direct linking to singles, albums, profiles
- Meaningful community interaction
- Mobile/desktop apps in addition to browser players
