Red Bull Studio Live stage to drop beats all day and night at Rocking the Daisies 2011
International heavyweights Kevin Saunderson (USA) and Mustard Pimp (France) to feature with locals going head-to-head and celebrating homecoming jams
There’s more than rock happening at Rocking the Daisies 2011 presented by Wrigley’s 5 Gum, thanks to the Red Bull Studio, curator of the live electronic stage* at this year’s festival. For those looking to take the party early into the morning there will be tons of electronica love to go around with one of the founding innovators of techno and a living legend in the dance music scene, Kevin Saunderson, standing tall on Saturday night. He will be joined by Dim Mak (the label owned by Steve Aoki) giant Mustard Pimp dropping some French electro-flair on the fields of Darling on Friday.
The booming lineup on the Red Bull Studio Live stage will also see the likes of El Gordo and Anthea Scholtz coming home after stints overseas, while big name peak-hour rinsers such as Haezer and PHfat, and Kwaito upstarts the Ruffest will show off a wide range of skills on the decks and microphones throughout the day and night. The weekend will be capped off with a much anticipated set from local electronica legend Felix Laband and complemented by his brother in bleeps, Markus Wormstorm, and his inspired forays into sonic sculpture. Fletcher‘s dub-wise expertise will also make an appearance in the Sunday line-up.
Pretoria and Cape Town local to battle
On Friday, Red Bull Music Academy (RBMA) alumnus Jullian Gomes – freshly back from the SONAR festival in Spain – will take on Sisco Umlambo in the battle of Pretoria, Saturday will see long-time bass gladiators, SFR and Hyphen go back to back, while Richard the Third, another RBMA past participant will be getting down track for track with Cape Town compatriot Jakobsnake.
Brian Little, co-creator of Rocking the Daisies commented: “This year sees another landmark collaboration between Rocking the Daisies and the Red Bull Studio. The Red Bull Studio Live Stage has been at the core of this festival from the early days and its grown to become a standout on the SA electronic music scene.” Little added “As the festival’s organisers, it’s been great for us to see the Red Bull Studio’s commitment to Daisies. With legends like Kevin Saunderson gracing the stage this year, not to mention the amazing line-up of local talent; The Red Bull Studio Live Stage has raised the bar yet again”
