R Kelly remains behind bars, struggling to pay bail
It appears that R. Kelly can no longer fly away from his destructive past.
On Friday, the R&B singer was indicted on 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse (a class 2 felony) involving 4 alleged victims.
A judge in Chicago set his bond at $1 million, $250 000 for each of the alleged victims. Kelly has to pay 10% of the bond, R100 000 to leave police custody, which he has failed to do.
Kelly’s lawyer, Steve Greenberg told reporters that his client “really doesn’t have any money at this point” due to “mismanagement,” “hangers-on” and “bad deals.”
On top of that, Kelly owes $169,000 in unpaid child support to his ex-wife, $161,663 to the court and risks eviction from his Chicago studio because he owes more than $166,000 in unpaid rent.
Clip Kelly’s wings
Records on Chicago’s Cook County sheriff’s website reveals that R Kelly is in division 8 of the county jail, where at-risk inmates are housed away from the general inmate population.
A new 42 minute and 45 seconds long videotape has come to light that shows explicit details of Kelly having sex with an underage girl.
Attorney Michael Avenatti, who handed over the tape, says:
“This tape leaves no question as to whether R. Kelly is guilty of multiple sexual, illegal acts against a 14-year-old girl,” he told reporters Friday. He said Foxx’s investigation was “very thorough … dedicated and methodical.”
Cook County State Attorney Kim Foxx is leading the prosecution, with the arraignment of R Kelly set for March 8.
