Producer named Graz creates album on a Gameboy
Graz is a Seattle based producer and he has created an entire album using the LSDJ program on a Nintendo Gameboy.
He created his album Ravepunk while commuting to and from work every day by bus and it took him almost an entire year to complete.
You can give it a listen on his Bandcamp page.
At first one might not totally consider the effort that must have gone into this. Although LSDJ (Little Sound DJ) claims to have a slight learning curve it’s the tedious methodology that would be required that makes this all the more impressive.
Graz says that he had to painstakingly program out full tracks including complex percussion to layers of melodies to fully achieve the sound he was after.
This from the Graz bandcamp page….
All songs produced between November 2014 and September 2015 primarily on public transportation. All sounds (excluding track 03) created using LSDJ on a Nintendo Gameboy DMG-01.”
The LSDJ app sport a full sequencer, drawable waveforms, a subtractive synthesizer, programmable speech functions, drum machine samples and other nifty tricks so the functionality is definitely available but one would think it’s more just for idle fun or for sketching out and idea or two.
Not Graz though. He decided an 8 track album would be a better idea. One this is for sure; his bus rides to and from work must have gone extremely quickly each day!
Here are the details of LSDJ – the app that Graz created Ravepunk with.
