Police buy huge amounts of drugs before raiding Melbourne nightclub
A particular Melbourne nightclub known as Railway Hotel was reportedly selling so much drugs that patrons were made to line up to buy cocaine and crystal meth.
According to the Herald Sun, police confirmed at the Melbourne Magistrate Court that the Railway Hotel manager, Chris Lytras and Paul Polito were both charged with drug trafficking.
They were busted and found to be selling large amounts of drugs from their upstairs offices at the night club venue.
The cops arranged for an undercover agent to go into the Melbourne nightclub to buy drugs after they got word that the venue was a well known spot for illegal drug sales.
What’s more the local Australian police department spent around $67,000 on drugs throughout the three months during the investigation. Their operation kicked off in December last year and has been completed now that they have made their big bust. The drugs found were of high purity quality while some of it had been cut.
The magistrate was also confused as to why the police made a total of thirteen drug purchases before they made the move to raid the venue.
Paul Polito has been accused of ‘acting as a concierge’; his job was to take the customers to the first floor of the Melbourne night club so that they could follow through on the buy. He is currently out on $150 00 surety bail. Chris Lyrtas whose partner owned the Railway Hotel, and another co-accused will stay in jail.
A second night club was also raided, DJ Jason Kolbeck, co-owner of the Two Floors Up nightclub in Melbourne has also not been given bail after cops found ‘several thousand ecstasy pills’ at his venue.
Given the impact of these raids it might be assumed that the venues would be close for business, at least temporarily. However, both of the Melbourne nightclubs are open and running with events carrying on as usual.
