Original Trainspotting cast will film sequel in May 2016
The Original Trainspotting cast will be getting together to film the sequel for the cult classic in May of next year. For Trainspotting fans the news is thrilling and anxiety fuelled. While knowing that the filming starts next year gives you something to look forward to, the fact that it will take a year and a half to two years before you get to watch it can be a daunting thought. It’s meant to be completed and released in spring 2017.
Luckily, all of the original Trainspotting cast are signed up and ready for filming which will most certainly give this long awaited sequel a strong foundation of authenticity.
The original Trainspotting cast Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller and Robert Carlyle will all be back in their roles of Renton, Spud, Sick Boy and Begbie for what is meant to be another age defining film.
The film will be set in Edinburgh ten years on from the first one and it is intended to be an adaptation of Irvine Welsh’s novel Porno.
The original director, Danny Boyle has let the world know that the script for the new film is in fact ‘terrific’. He spoke to The Hollywood Reporter and revealed a few details about the upcoming movie and the filming.
“It’s been 20 years since we met these characters and John Hodge’s screenplay brilliantly explores what’s happened to them – and to us – in the intervening years. Obviously it’s worrying because people will kill us if we made a bad job of it. I will get absolutely crucified. But you have to thrive on that potential danger within it and if it feeds into you, you might get a decent film out of it, you know.” Said Boyle
Sony TriStar has the worldwide rights to Trainspotting and the sequel will be produced with Cloud Eight Films, Film4, Figment Films, and Decibel Films.
