NYC number one city for marijuana consumption in the world
Marijuana consumption in NYC is very, very high.
Recently Seedo, which manufactures a plant cultivation device, conducted a study to see how much weed is consumed in which city and how much tax money that could bring in if it were to be legalised and taxed at the same rate as cigarettes.
Well, let’s just say that people really like the devil’s lettuce, and legalising it would really benefit the tax sector- I mean it is 2018!
They found that the number 1 pot consuming city in the whole world is the Big Apple- NYC.
It is estimated that a sky-high total of 77.44 metric tons of marijuana is consumed within the 5 boroughs every year- that’s 77400 kg’s or 77 400 000 g’s- nearly 80 million g’s of bud!
Money marijuana
At an estimated cost of $10.76/gram (crowd-sourced from city-level surveys and data from the 2017 World Drug Report), Ney York City could bring in $156.4 million just by legalising and taxing weed at the same rate it does cigarettes.
“This is equivalent to providing nearly three months’ worth of free school meals to every single public school kid in New York City,” says Uri Zeevi, the company’s chief marketing officer.
Quite frankly they’re really missing out on something that would benefit everyone without really changing anything.
The study also reveals other big inhalers in the world, with Karachi, Pakistan coming in at number 2 with 41.95 metric tons/year, New Delhi with 38.26 and Los Angeles ranking fourth with 36.06 metric tons per year.
The legalisation of marijuana is gaining momentum, with bills in New Jersey, Vermont and New Hampshire foreseeing a possible pass this year.
Marijuana consumption will continue to happen with or without legalisation (we’ve been doing it for years), so might as well legalise so that your city can also fly.
