uKhozi FM, the biggest station in Africa (according listenership count), have opened their doors and hearts to the Major League DJz who will appear weekly on their Vuka Mzansi Breakfast Show.
The show takes place on Thursday mornings (from 8:40), and will feature amplified commercial and old skool mixes of hip hop, RNB and kwaito by Major League DJz. It’s aptly been titled the ‘Vuka Mix’.
Major League DJz have expressed their excitement by stating that it’s indeed a privilege to get exposed to a massive audience that tune into uKhozi FM and share what they love and do well.
Then again, the guys are not new to the wide entertainment spectrum of South Africa. They’ve been featured as openers for international acts such Kanye West and Kid Cudi. They also run Urban Breeze which features weekly events promoting SA hip hop culture in townships.
It is no small wonder that Major League DJz have exploded onto the music industry with a loud boom. Consisting of two twin brothers, Bandile and Banele Mbere, they are considered a versatile package that comprehends everything young and exposes anyone with talent.
Most recently they’ve joined in on the national DJ and dance crew competition called Street Rhythm (proudly brought to you by McDonalds) in which they express their ethos very clearly and with no small amount of inspiration.
But having said all that, the boys still give it up to the past. Case and point with a recent Facebook update in which they wrote: “Afternoon… Today we remember Martin Thembelihle “Chris” Hani (28 June 1942 – 10 April 1993). Nkosi sikelela… Bless #RockwitMajorLeague.”
No doubt, they’re pressing all the right buttons – whether those buttons are on a desk or in real life. Tune into 90.8 uKhozi FM Thursday @ 08:40 and catch the Vuka Mix live with the Major League DJz.
