Nightclub security battles: 2 wounded, 3 arrested in Camps Bay shooting
Nightclub security battles have plagued Cape Town for quite some time and it seems to be getting more heated as new factions move in and take over the control of this lucrative industry.
On Monday morning at around 01:01, 2 patrons of an upmarket Camps Bay club were shot and wounded.
According to News24 one of the wounded is tyre service centre owner, better known as “Gupta” in the underworld. Last year in May his shop was the target of an arson attack linked to the Nightclub security battle. Read more about it on News24: sources tell us the club was Caprice although strangely mainstream media is not naming the venue.
Public Order officers who were in the vicinity arrested 3 suspects. Sources say that these police officers “anticipated a clash and foiled a surgical attack planned on some of those in the club.”
Everyone wants a slice of the pie.
There has been an on-going battle between the ruling faction of Nightclub security and a new faction that is trying to muscle in and take over this lucrative industry.
Here is a summary of the unfolding events in this underworld dual between old and new:
November 2016: Shamiel Eyssen, leader of the Fancy Boys and linked to the old faction is shot dead. Read more about it here
30 March 2017: Two properties belonging to shady businessman Nafiz Modack go on auction. A huge brawl breaks out at his second property in Parow.
Later that night Modack and his men take over the security of a popular strip club in the city centre.
Sunday 9 April: The old faction return to the strip club which they were ousted from and blocked the road with their cars. Police intervened.
An audio clip surfaced where two members of the new faction discuss a potential murder plot being the Camps Bay attack.
This new faction is headed by Nafiz Modack and it is understood that he is working with the brother of an alleged gang leader with ties to international organised crime that are funding this new faction.
While some say the coup has been a long time in the making, others think it is an “elaborate scheme involving police and intelligence operatives to trip up some of the country’s most prolific underworld players, who also have links to politicians,” according to News24.
Nightclub security is ironically the most dangerous happening in our club life. Scary.
