USA nightclub massacre – the final texts between mother & son
The USA nightclub massacre in Orlando, Florida this weekend is just another in a long line of crazed shootings that have taken place in America in recent years.
What happened
If you don’t know the details here’s what happened. Pulse nightclub in Orlando is a Gay club and on Saturday night a man identified as Omar Mateen of Port St. Lucie, Fla strolled into the venue around 2 AM carrying an assault rifle and a handgun. He proceeded to open fire at random, killing 50 people and injuring 53. The gunman was shot and killed by police but not before the carnage he had inflicted left a horrifying toll.
It took until 5 AM for the SWAT team to finally resolve the situation.
This nightclub massacre happened just 24 hours after a crazed gunman shot and killed a singer from the American Voice show named Christina Grimmie while she was signing autographs in the same city. The gunman then turned the gun on himself leaving authorities with no answer to the senseless killing.
According to Orlando Police Chief John Mina, ““It appears he was organized and well-prepared,” the chief said, adding that the shooter had an assault-type weapon, a handgun and “some type of (other) device on him.”
THE FBI are investigating the incident as an act of terrorism and the shooter was allegedly interviewed by them a few years earlier although he has no history of criminal activity.
A boys heartbreaking final text messages
Perhaps the most heartbreaking part of this nightclub massacre was when a mother released to the media a transcript of the text message between her and her son who was hiding in the toilets as the nightclub massacre ensued. As reported by News24 here is the desperately moving conversation…
“Mommy I love you,” was the first message she received at 2.06
“In club they shooting.”
His mother, Mina Justice tried calling her 30-year-old son, to no avail.
“U ok”
At 02:07, he wrote: “Trapp in bathroom”
Justice asked what club, and he responded: “Pulse. Downtown. Call police.”
Then at 02:08: “I’m gonna die.”
Now wide awake, Justice dialled 911.
Several texts were then sent…
“I’m calling them now.
“U still in there
“Answer our damn phone
“Call them
Call me.”
At 02:39, he responded:
“Now.”
He wrote that he was in the bathroom.
“He’s coming
“I’m gonna die.”
Justice asked her son if anyone was hurt and which bathroom he was in.
“Lots. Yes,” he responded at 02:42.
When he didn’t text back, she sent several more messages.
“Text me please,” she wrote.
“No,” he wrote four minutes later. “Still here in bathroom. He has us. They need to come get us.”
At 02:49, she told him the police were there and to let her know when he saw them.
“Hurry,” he wrote. “He’s in the bathroom with us.”
She asked, “Is the man in the bathroom wit u?”
At 02:50: “He’s a terror.”
Then, a final text from her son a minute later: “Yes.”
At the time that Justice released this text conversation with her son to the media, she still had no idea whether he was among the survivors or not.
Sadly authorities confirmed in the early hours of Monday morning that he had indeed died in the Orland nightclub massacre.
