Curb isolation blues with the Netflix Party extension
Stream with your friends from anywhere in the world with the Netflix Party extension.
As isolation increases, so will our viewing. And while streaming shows and talking to your friends about it on Whatsapp is still viable, Netflix has introduced a new Google Chrome extension that will allow you to watch movies and series with your friends online with synchronised video playback and group chat.
Over 500 000 people have already downloaded the extension, which was only launched last week.
How it works:
After installing Netflix Party, the person hosting the party selects a movie on Netflix, then clicks on the “NP” button in your browser.
That’s when you can start the party, virtually of course. You will then get a specific URL code to copy and send to your friends. At this point you can select whether only you have control over the movie (pause, play, skip, etc.) or if everyone else can.
Stream and chat
So what makes it social? Essentially you can just all watch the same movie at the same time, so what sets this extension apart?
The chatting, of course!
Once streaming, a chat box will open up on the right side which you can customize with your name and by picking an avatar. To exit party mode, simply exit the movie/episode.
It might be basic, but it certainly brings excitement to something we’re pretty accustomed to.
