The Netflix EDM movie known as ‘XOXO’ appears to be as insightful and enlightening as the well thought out title, and that is just going by the trailer.
The involuntary facial response…
Netflix without a doubt has some seriously good content, satisfying the appetites of TV series and movie addicts across the world. However, this new Netflix EDM movie looks like it’s going to be delivering on all of its gag inducing promises. A lot like its predecessor and record breaking box office failure, ‘We Are Your Friends’ starring High School Musical’s (often shirtless) Zac Efron.
Netflix good, Netflix EDM movie not so good…
In what it is meant to be a romanticized interpretation of the American EDM boom, the film is laid out in a predictable and transparent blockbuster fashion. The XOXO storyline of course has a male hero, a gorgeous girl who is the hero’s prize, the villain, a great challenge to overcome, and then a great victory for the hero.
That alone would make it boring, but the overzealous, shallow, neon paint, candy raver beads, pom poms, and greedy underbelly of the American EDM scene is on full display in the Netflix EDM movie. And unfortunately, little about the modern Yankee take on rave inspires a sense of awe or authenticity.
It’s clear that attempts are being made here to create a movie about EDM that will capture this moment in time with a film that could potentially be iconic. Only thing is, it is an entirely too difficult to create something of substance out of a scene that is based on anything but.
The XOXO film has actress, Sarah Hyland who plays Haley Dunphy in Modern Family as the female lead.
