Muzi presents Afrovision, his second album- out now
Muzi presents Afrovision, out now.
Originally from KZN, Muzi spent time in the electronic music capital of the world- Berlin where he further worked on his sound before coming home to SA to write and record Afrovision.
His music continues to be inspired by his challenging upbringing- a tale of striving through adversity in the semi-rural township of Empangeni in KZN, where he would often have to travel great distances to get internet access in order to send out his demos to record labels.
Read an interview we did with him in 2015 prior to his move to Berlin to get a better picture of Muzi.
A true South African, Muzi’s return home had a profound effect on his music and songwriting, reflecting the optimism and energy of the burgeoning SA music scene, a positive Afrovision.
Tune in to Muzi’s Afrovision
The album, which is his second album to date sees Muzi continue to evolve as an artist, producer, and as a songwriter.
‘Afrovision’ continues to showcase Muzi’s talented ability to fuse genres like hip hop beats, afrobeat, pop, electronica, kwaito and traditional Zulu music, an amalgamation of sound that has earned him chart success:
-‘Zenzile’ and ‘Desire’ (feat. Yanga Madlala)reached Top 30, and No.17 respectively in 5FM’s SA Top 30 Chart), alongside heavy MTV support; and shown international ears that there’s more to South African electronic music than gqom.
His hugely successful ad syncs for Apple’s iWatch, Ralph Lauren, and Nandos, demonstrate how emerging artists like MUZI can bypass traditional routes to achieve global exposure.
Muzi’s ‘Fire FX EP’ garnered major attention from the likes of Mad Decent, Foreign Beggars and OWSLA, with the lead single, ‘Fire (VIP)’ used on the soundtrack to ‘Generation Revolution,’ the British documentary which explores contemporary Black and Asian activism. Muzi also travelled to South Africa with Stormzy to shoot the Vice/Noisey mini-documentary, ‘Stormzy & MUZI: From South London to South Africa’.
