Music Venues protected from developers in the UK
Agent of Change will safeguard music venues.
It not only has a ‘super hero’ name, but is here to fight against developers issuing noise complaints despite knowingly building near venues of sound.
This is especially important seeing as from a historical point of view; venues of music, including pubs, bars and clubs are an integral part of life in the UK.
The proposal deemed Agent of Change (the UK is so James Bond!) will see to it that property developers foot the bill for soundproofing the building, taking responsibility for building near venues of music.
Play that funky music!
Speaking about the new proposal, Housing Secretary Sajid Javid said: “I have always thought it unfair that the burden is on long-standing music venues to solve noise issues when property developers choose to build nearby.
“I am pleased to finally have an opportunity to right this wrong and also give more peace of mind to new residents moving into local properties.”
For the UK this is a major step towards developmental improvement and building a future where all parties benefit.
South Africa is no stranger to the fight between development and venues of music, and a bill like Agent of Change could safeguard our own purveyors of music.
Venues that play host to music are an integral part of a city’s economy, providing jobs, circulating income and boosting tourism, without them development would suffer.
It makes sense that developers should pay for soundproofing as their tenants are the ones affected by noise.
Music venues are backed by the UK government and Agent of Change.
