The Soil and The Muffinz are set to perform at Pretoria’s Botanical Gardens (on Sunday the 29th of September) as part of the Old Mutual Music in the Gardens concert series. Organisers are promising a rare and unforgettable occasion with the two fresh acts on offer.
The Soil has been on a massive rise since 2011. The last few years has seen this “Kasi House” trio churning out genuine ground-breaking soulful tunes. This year saw the Soweto-based group drop their self-titled album, which went onto earn gold status.
The Soil has often been defined by their colourful mix of genres – from hip-hop, jazz, afro-pop to afro-soul. Their distinctive style is evident in its rhythmic vocal bass line, with constant beat boxing, whilst the remaining voices contribute to the choral and polyphonic accompaniment.
According to Old Mutual Sponsorship Manager, Bandile Mngoma: “[Both] The Soil & The Muffinz represent a new breed of South African musicians who draw on the basics, energise them with modern elements and use authentic ideas and approaches to create their sound. Our series will showcase them in an equally breath-taking environment that celebrates all that is natural and precious to South Africa.
“We invite all music lovers – especially those with a more discerning yet funky taste to come out and enjoy themselves at the beautiful and scenic Pretoria Botanical Gardens.”
Fans are encouraged to come early, bring picnic chairs and blankets and spend the day in natural splendour. There is also a restaurant in the gardens plus a supervised children’s area (Kidz Zone available from 13h30 – 16h30).
