Microsoft Launches Music x Technology Collaboration Website
Microsoft has launched a Music x Technology collaboration website. It has been created to serve as an online hub for new ideas in combining music and technology, which is where the name comes from.
The site will feature new content once a month; including new artist collaborations complete with behind the scenes videos on how technology was incorporated in creating the new music.
The first feature on Music x Technology was shot by Carlo Van de Roer, founder of Satellite Lab. It is an interactive photography project done in collaboration with Matthew Dear, an acclaimed DJ/producer, Phantogram (a pop duo), and Neon Indian (an electronic music band).
Together they created striking portraits.
“Photography and music have a long history. With making these portraits, we wanted to think about the relationship between these musicians and an audience — with technology as the conduit for that relationship.” Said Carlo Van de Roer
Microsoft held a private listening party to celebrate the mau5trap act, ATTLAS’ official release of ‘Aspen’ which was created using a Microsoft Surface tablet.
‘Aspen’ was also recorded on the road as part of mau5hax bu5 tour by deadmau5. The listening party was held at The Microsoft Lounge in Venice, California. The event included a small panel discussion in which ATTLAS shared other insights on the technology behind the music production process.
“It’s the merging of studio and performance that is the most exciting frontier.” “When you get things like Surface where you can merge these two worlds of studio and performance and turn them into this new hybrid — the benefit is for the performer, the benefit is for the listener, and it only helps music.” Said Jeff Hartford of ATTLAS
Microsoft is steadily at work trying to earn a few cool points with the help of the electronic music scene. Three years ago they launched OneBeat labs and the first ever EDM app on Xbox 360.
Check out the behind the scenes video below for a closer look at how ATTLAS produced the ‘Aspen’ track.
