McTrax – McDonalds’ adult customer toy
McTrax is a new tech concept created by the Netherlands McDonalds fast food chain in an eager one time campaign to reel in adult customers by letting them make music on a placemat.
They are a company well known for unethical advertising aimed at kids with the happy meal toys. Now they seems to have come up with a way to use that angle with toys for grownups too in the form of McTrax musical placemat.
McDonalds doesn’t want you to stop eating their junk food and they are seemingly desperate to appear cool and trendy in order to reel you in.
The Dutch McDonalds franchise has teamed up with advertising agency TBWA\Neboko and digital production agency This Page Amsterdam to create a placemat that allows you to make music while you eat.
It is possible that the McTrax musical placemat could be rolled out as an international campaign designed to draw in more burger and nuggets eaters. But this is yet to be seen. Perhaps they were hoping to attract the creatives in Amsterdam and become a spot where the artsy and alternative hang out. This doesn’t seem likely, but hey at least they are trying.
While we can hate on the toxic food that they serve, we have to admit the McTrax concept does have a strong novelty aspect. Regular folk who enjoy eating McDonalds meals had a neat old time playing with the music making place mat last month.
The paper mat sits on a regular tray and contains a thin circuit board and a number of touch points to control different musical effects.
To get started making your future charting track at McDonalds you would have to download the app containing samples, synths, loops, tempo control etc. Users were even able to record their own voices and sing or talk or whatever, and their smartphones were the screens and speakers.
Just imagine – faux creatives getting into it at your local McDonalds, working on a McTrax fast food restaurant studio session, singing, vibing, focusing and taking themselves seriously.
Pictures of these scenes would make great meme material and probably the next big David Guetta track too.
